No more secrets!

Since everything went well at the 12 week ultrasound, we decided it was time to tell the girls. We wanted to wait to have both girls together to share the news and we finally got the opportunity to tell them on Thursday night. Leanna was only here for a few minutes, so we really didn't have time to be creative, so Darren just came out and told them. We also showed them the pictures from the ultrasound. Of course they giggled, when I commented that it looked like a little monkey. They weren't near as shocked as last time, but they definitely seemed excited. They also confessed to the fact, they had already had suspicions.

The other news to share is, the doctor called with the blood results. Everything came back as "normal", so that was another great sign! Everything else is going good and it also seems that I'm not quite as exhausted as I was a few weeks ago. Pregnancy is definitely NOT for the impatient person, as the countdown continues for 6 more weeks until we can find out the gender.

12 Week Ultrasound

Darren & I went first thing this morning for the 1st trimester ultrasound screening. Because of my age they do a non-invasive 3-stage screening to test for Down's or other chromosomal abnormalities. Part 1 is today's ultrasound, they measure the head size and the thickness of the neck. Part 2 is a simple blood test, which they also did today. The results from the bloodwork will be available in a week. And then part 3 is the ultrasound at 18 weeks, where they take specific measurements and also tell us the gender!

The morning started out with the ultrasound and they were able to zoom in on the baby immediately. It was amazing how much things had changed in 6 weeks time. At 6 weeks, it looked like a blob, today, it actually looked like a baby (or monkey). We were able to see the head, body, arms and legs. The lil bugger was squirming around alot, making the technicians job a little difficult, however, it did cooperate and they were able to get the measurements they needed. We got to see the arms moving around and legs kicking. We also heard the heartbeat, which was 154 bpm and the baby was measuring right at 12 weeks.

After the technician was done, the doctor came in and talked to us. She also did a quick scan for herself to take a look at things. She said the head size looked good, the neck measurement also looked as it should and everything appeared to be great! For giggles, I asked if there was any indication of boy or girl... She said at 12 weeks, her guesses, are 75% accurate, so that is exactly what it is, a guess... but we liked what we heard! The guess was.... a boy!!!

My next routine doctor's appointment is on Tuesday, June 1st. It was definitely a big sigh of relief today to see everything was going as we hoped!

And now... presenting the little monkey...

1st OB visit - 10 weeks

Yesterday, Monday, May 3rd, I went to see Dr. Bromberger for my 1st OB visit. Being that everything looked good at the 6-week ultrasound and I haven't really had any complications, it was a short visit. She said at this stage everything looks good and was happy to hear I haven't been sick. My only really complaint is how tired I have been, but she said, once I reach the 12 week marker, I should have energy again. Only 2 weeks to go!

This morning I went for an obstetric blood panel, which includes blood type, antibody screening, and a complete blood count (CBC). The results of these tests can help find certain problems during the pregnancy. They can also help guide any treatment needed for a woman during pregnancy or for a baby immediately after birth.
Dr. B said, I will only hear from her if something is wrong.

On Monday, May 17th, I get to go for my 1st trimester ultrasound screening. Darren has the day off work, so he will be able to go with me. This test is done by a specialist who will be able to tell us everything they see. Assuming all goes well at that appointment, the risk of misccarriage goes down to below 1%, so we will then share the news with the girls.

I've always known I was an impatient person, but sheesh, is it May 17th yet?!?
