18 Weeks

Went to the doctor today, for another of what I call, "worthless appointment". Pee in a cup, check my blood pressure, take my weight, listen to the babies heartbeat (which is always fun to hear) and send me on my way.

Everything checked out as it should. The babies heart rate measured in the 140's, which the doctor said was good. The next big appointment is one week from today, where they do specific measurements on the baby and of course confirm the sex.

I feel great! I don't feel near as tired as I did a few weeks ago, I am actually able to stay up past 8pm now, YAY!

For those of you who haven't seen me and are dying to see the baby bump, here ya go.

Impatience at it's finest...

Well if you know me, you would know that I would find a way to find out the sex before my scheduled appointment on July 6th. As some of you may know, 3d/4d ultrasounds are becoming very popular. These are not done at doctor's offices, but are done at private locations, by licensed technicians. Not only do they offer state-of-art 4d ultrasounds, but gender checks as early as 16 weeks. For only $39, how could I not do it? (they also guarantee that you can come back for free if the baby won't cooperate) LOL Well, Monday was 16 weeks. I called and scheduled an appointment for Tuesday evening. Darren & I figured it would be exciting and a neat experience for the girls, so we brought them with.

Tuesday seemed to never end, but 8pm, finally came! The technician was very nice, I questioned her on her experience, to find out how accurate she would be. She explained that she has been doing ultrasounds since 2003, works full-time at a doctor's office and has done thousands of ultrasounds, so needless to say, I'm assuming she probably knows what she is doing.

She zoomed in on the baby immediately, pointed out the 2 little arms, 2 little legs, the head, stomach, etc. As in the past, the baby was extremely squirmy, so in my head, I am thinking, "great, now I'm going to have to wait another week to find out." As those thoughts were going through my head, she says, "Congratulations, you are the proud parents of a little baby GIRL." Don't ask me what everyone's reactions were, because I don't even remember, I was in MAJOR shock.

I don't know if the past 3 months have been wishful thinking, or if the fact that ALL of the old wives tales said boy, but I was convinced Darren was going to get his boy. In my googling, I have read, when mistakes are made with gender determination, it's typically with girls, so there is still a chance, we shall see what they say on July 6th. As long as the baby is healthy, that truely is all that matters!

Moral of the story - don't believe in old wives tales! You can not get sick, not get achne, not get ugly and the baby have a lower heartbeat and it CAN be a girl!!!

14 Week Update

Went to the doctor today, for my routine monthly visit. Another short, but sweet visit. She reassured me that everything looked great from my 12 week ultrasound. The doctor listened to the baby's heartbeat with the doppler. The heartbeat was in the low 150's, which is normal. Along with listening to the heartbeat, I got to hear all kinds of swishing, which was the baby moving around. He/she sure is an active bugger!

I feel great and I'm starting to get my energy back, just in time for golf season! Doctor said all is well and I am free and clear to continue as I am doing. In 4 weeks I get to go for my 18 week ultrasound where they tell us the gender... YAY!!! And then I go back to the doctor on Tuesday, June 29th for my monthly visit.
